The Roleplayer
Name: Gabrielle
Age: 17
How you found Anomaly: Don't remember for the life of me.
How long you have been roleplaying: About five or six years.
Other:
The Character
Name: Raven Antoinette Jackson
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Race: Caucasian (half English half French-Canadian)
Illness: Hepatic Porphyria, primarily affected by the mental disturbances associated with the disease, primarily Hallucinations and paranoia though experiences depression and anxiety to slightly lower degrees. Also experiences some physical symptoms in the forms of seizures, muscle pain, and light sensitivity.
Appearance:
Raven has long, dark brown hair that curlers ever so slightly, occasionally she trims it to her shoulders but usually she just wears it long or tied back. Her eyes are a dark blue and slightly bloodshot and her skin is exceedingly pale.
Raven is about 5'9", curvy enough to be attractive but still fairly thin with hollowed cheeks and an exceedingly wasted look with sunken eyes and thin lips. Her smile is a bit disconcerting given the long, brownish teeth associated with Porphyria but is always welcome as a change from her usually dour, solemn moods.
She dresses simply, usually in black or white dresses and skirts and she prefers to go barefoot.
Personality:
Raven tends to have some pretty bad mood extremes. Happiness can lead to giddiness, giddiness tends to lead to some fairly stupid things. Unhappiness leads to violent depression and serious withdrawal.
Luckily enough, these extremes are fairly rare and Raven's typical mood is a happy median between the two. She has her bubbly moments, and her unhappy moments, but violent mood swings are very rare lately, and she is often very mellow.
A rather disconcerting part about Raven is her smile. When she finds something funny, she'll laugh but will not smile. In fact, she only really smiles when there seems to be nothing entertaining going on at all. This gives her a slightly sinister look, especially as even she rarely knows what she's smiling about.
Raven has a morbid sense of humor, incidents like death and murder rarely phase her much and she concentrates instead on the world view, how Will something affect something else? She always sees things in the big picture, working details into her overall view of the universe.
She'll always be cheered up by a walk alone through the town or just a bit of aimless wandering through he cemetery, her friends often serve as an easy source of joy for Raven who enjoys company quite a bit. Boredom is a natural factor in her life, unfortunately, and woe to any who bring it upon her for she will become the single most depressing being on earth.
Boredom itself unleashes the torrent of random facts she keeps locked in her mind, few of which are pleasant, and has on occasion elicited the most unusual of tangents, often focusing on music or world domination, depending on whether she's watched the news.
When she is honestly upset she'll usually give off the appearance of being tired or at least attempt a bit of cheerfulness but within an hour or so she'll become sullen and withdrawn once more.
She has horrible bouts or paranoia and depression from which there's no extracting her, though these have been happening less and less often with treatment.
History:
Raven was born just two months after her father, David's, tragic death, in car accident (He had been driving drunk), and four years after her older brother James. Luckily for the young family, Raven's father had a million dollar life insurance policy, which, along with mother Annie's retirement money (She was a Neural Surgeon), allowed the family to support itself and send the mother to drug rehabilitation and a depression clinic numerous times.
James essentially raised young Raven and the two bonded together, sharing all their secrets by flashlight. Raven was sent through school, given a private education at an all girl's school until High school, when she was sent to a private Carolinian prep school, which her brother had graduated from the year before.
Every year, the family came together, for summer break, and spent the time together, James returning to Portland Maine from Nevada, where he attended college, Raven returning from a private boarding school in North Carolina.
It was only three years ago that her porphyria (A trait inherited from her father's grandmother) began to develop. She became nervous and incredibly sickly, developing seizures several times in class and even beginning to see hallucinations. The hallucinations, Depression, and Paranoia became so much greater than the physical symptoms (Her seizures became a fairly rare occurrence and the muscle pain, while crippling, was easily taken care of) that her mother and brother were forced to turn her over to the psychiatric hospital. They still visit, albeit rarely, and she has remained within the hospital's confines for the last several years.
Your character loves:
"I like William Blake for being Barmy and obsessed with the Line and I like Edgar Allen Poe for drinking himself to death after marrying his cousin. I like Goth Rock, I like the Sisters of mercy and Siouxsie and the Banshees and weird subcategories like Brechtian Punk. I like making friends, and making enemies, and making Christmas. I like Communism and Karl Marx and Lenin. I like running around in a trench coat in the rain pretending I'm The Crow. I like making Bela Lugosi's eyebrows and controlling my friends. I like playing the Bass and I like singing. I love being outside, at least when it doesn't hurt my eyes. I like when everything turns white and wouldn't it be great if father Christmas was for real..."
Hates:
"I hate predictability and snobbery, bad shoes are awful. I can't stand being trapped in this place. I hate playing in the wrong key but even more I hate not knowing I'm playing in the wrong key. I hate Self-Justifying despots and ignorant bastards and genocide. I really hate coming up with things that I hate because I end up second-guessing myself and I end up getting confused."
Home Town: Portland, Maine.

Sitting in absolute silence in her Rather plain room Raven kicked her feet from under her short white dress. She held a pen in one hand, and there was a plain marble note book on the desk. They had told her to write whatever she liked, she suspected she had better get started. With a brief sigh she picked up the ballpoint pen in her long, ghost white fingers and, casting a longing look outside, put down the date at the top of the paper.
I want to go home. I'm not a danger to anyone else and I've always been a danger to myself so why can't you just let me leave. I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you...
She went on like this for a moment, then sighed, pulling out the page with a fantastic ripping sound and throwing it under her small bed. the date went down again and the pen began to scribble.
Nothing interesting today but a walk through the gardens with that foul old doctor. No seizures for a week, but I still can't get rid of the paranoia. Damn them not making drugs for Porphy patients. I miss Mother and I miss James and I miss Margaret and I miss my cat.
She closed the book and crossed to the window, leaning with her head against the glass to gaze out onto the gardens and out toward the city. there was a knock and the door opened, some nurse with her medications.
"Right on time Joy. I don't suppose you managed to snag me a coke..." It was the conversation starter Raven used with all her nurses. It killed her not to have soda.
"You know I can't. Now come over here and take your pills." The nurse herself was one of the nicer ones and Raven walked over as the good little patient she was, sliding the pills between her lips and drinking from the little plastic cups, smiling when she had finished.
The smile remained until Joy had left and Raven had spit the awful things beneath her mattress. She'd like to see the day the bastards managed to medicate her.
