After Holden's medication was taken, his orderly left the room, thankfully leaving it unlocked. It had been three weeks or so, he really didn't keep track of those things unless it was really important, since he went into the hallway last. Havoc was caused while he was out there, pounding on patients' doors to get them to wake-up. He had even said things about "breaking out of this place," which scared a lot of the staff members working there. Every single patient was highly plausible to break out, and every single staff member knew that.
Anyway, they had taken extra caution in locking his door so he wasn't able to cause trouble again, but a new and careless orderly had kept it unlocked. Thank God for her; hopefully they wouldn't fire her, though, because he needed to use her for other breakouts and such.
Once he stepped out into the hallway, his bare feet felt the chill the marble floor produced. Smells of odor and horrible food wafted into his face, and he coughed softly, just so the other orderlies wouldn't here. After examining the hallway to make sure everything was safe, he started down them, walking quite casually as if nothing was wrong. Though he had been here a month or so, he was only familiar with his bedroom, and the rest he just had to take on face-forward.
Roaming the halls was quite a challenge, especially after the medicine that made him drowsy, leading to a deep sleep close to twelve hours. That's all the patients ever did, though, sleep, eat repulsive food that he refused, and get tested on. St. Mary's was a horrible place, especially for a curious boy like Holden. He stumbled a few times down the hall, but regained his balance as he looked at all the door numbers.
Even though he hated associating with people, he wished he knew someone in this place, and even their door number so he'd knock and just chat with him. Restless was one of his bad attributes that lead to being bored, which, coincidentally, lead him into trouble. Not that they ever did anything to him for being "bad," other than being tested an hour or so more. Yes, Holden minded it a lot, but he could handle it. It wasn't painful, but, right now, he could go for some pain. If only there was a loose piece of glass from another psychotic patient that broke a window...
