In the small town of Westwood, Ohio, there is admittedly not much to see. No tourists ever stop there, in fact, hardly any even pass through considering it isn't near any major interstates. There are several small stores and businesses, a Wal-Mart right in the middle of the town, and across from that, there's a mall, though it isn't much to brag about in terms of store selection.
In Westwood, there are only two high schools. One is Blessed Sacrament, or BS (a nickname used in both fond and scathing tones, depending on who you talk to). BS is a Catholic high school where only the rich and/or exceptional students go. Despite the slow, small town it is placed in, seemingly everything there is state of the art. It's kept very up-to-date and so clean it's practically sterile, and the teachers there accept nothing but the best from their students.
The not-so-exceptional students (or the kids whose parents just don't want to pay the high tuition) go to the public high school across town--Central High. Central is rather infamous in the town for its outstanding record of illegal activity and violence, but in reality, it isn't that the kids there are neccessarily worse than the students at BS. True they may not all be as rich or smart, but in all honesty the students of BS aren't all perfect, law-abiding citizens either. The ones who break the rules are either sneakier about it or it is covered up because of their parents' status or money.
It's no secret that Blessed Sacrament and Central High School are bitter rivals, being the only high schools in the town and with such remarkable differences. The principals of both schools tried to remedy this, putting together several inter-school events such as dances and the like, but it unsurprisingly did not work. Fights broke out, even more rivalries between people were made, and all that was accomplished was making the animosity even worse.
It is now September of 2006, the beginning of a new academic year at both schools, and it is expected that this year things will go as they always have. BS and Central will compete in sports, academics, and anything else they can find to fight over, and the rivalry will continue. It doesn't have to be this way, however, should people finally decide to put differences behind them...though it seems unlikely that this will happen anytime soon.
